I have a 3-in-the-tree on a ’65 Suburban I’m considering.
It apparently worked fine ‘til just recently… the big peg in the middle of the linkage that sticks up between the 2 rods does not seem to move back and forth when moving the shift lever.
A manual adjustment (by a helpful second party) allows for the easy engagement of reverse and first gear…
and you can see the shifter move in the cab when the peg is manually pushed.
Other than it being ‘slap wore out’ (potentially)… any input on a repair idea? It appears to have been lubed up well. Is there easy replacement of that linkage area?
The truck seems to run well otherwise- I’m just loathe to bring home ‘too much’ of a project… I’ve learned my lesson from past stupidity.
I once drove an old Ford truck that got converted to a floor shifter after too many ‘hang-ups’ between 1st and 2nd… I don’t consider myself capable of such a conversion. Nor would I want to mess up the truck that way.
Any input (or directions to a website) appreciated-
