i'm new here , and i have what may be an unusual request . i'm a die-hard ford guy and a life-long race fan and model builder . i'm looking for info on a '56 f-100 that raced on daytona beach in 1956 . i've got a little bit of info on the truck , but have never been able to confirm the color . i've been told the truck appeared on the cover of ford's "clues" magazine in 1956 . the cover date should have been about april to july , 1956 , as that would've been when info on the daytona events would've first been published . i haven't been able to locate this mag , so i thought i'd ask if anyone has that issue [ or knows where one might be available ] . if so , can i buy it or pay for a color copy of the cover and article ? i'll appreciate any help . my e-mail address is dearbornjack@netzero.com .
here's a bit of info on the truck :
owned , built , and driven by L . merritt brown .
ran 126 mph on the beach .
was said to have a stock '56 t-bird engine for power [ tho it's not clear if he meant showroom stock or RACING stock - 260 H P nascar engine ].
b&w photos i have show it to be very light in color [ but not white ] . it said "BIG BAD FORD" on the right front fender [ perhaps on left , also ].
thank you very much . ANY info will be greatly appreciated .
