I just bought a 68 chevy. it does not have a dustpan on it,and on my way home the other day i had to drive through about 1 foot of water where a creek had rose over the road. about 30 minutes later it started slipping. i thought maybe that i had got water in it somehow. i pulled the pan and drained what i could, replaced the filter and put new fluid in it. it is still slipping,it takes awhile to shift,i have to rev the moter and it finally shifts. i checked the fluid when i got back home and it was over full,i accidently put 2 much in. my question is if the transmission has to much fluid will it make it slip like that?

I had to think about something also, too much fluid can affect it, but also atf fluid is like oil and can be displaced by water , but do let me know what transmission it is

sounds like you need your trans flushed out at a tranny shop. It,s a automatic right??.Water is your troble.Going to have to change the filter again with the flush. Having no dust cover on the flywheel should not hurt anything.Too much fluid is just as bad as having not enuff.Put in the proper amount.Just back track what you did.It ran fine before the water??.Your tranny fluid ,check it should be milky gray in color if water is present.
