View Full Version : chevy 250 mounts

I got my 250 I6 and now im trying to figure out how to mount it to my frame. First off i notice that it uses side engine mounts, and i dont have the mounts. So my question is can i somehow use the front mount of the 216 on the 250 or can i use the standard v8 crossmember to mount the 250? Can the 216 bell housing mounbt up to the 250?

There is a good chance the bell housing form the 216 will fit the 250. However, the front mount, I have no idea. I guess you have to have both engines side by side and stare and compare. Looks like the word "customize" will come into play here. I have seen newer 6's installed in these trucks but never asked what it took to do it.

a guy around here told me that the front mount should fit. I also read somewhere that not a single part was interchangeable, but this is not true as i switched the thermostats and the thermostat covers so i could have the right output diameter and they work fine. im trying to pull the balancers but it is proving to be a real pain, but from the looks of it all, i think the front mount will fit, but if not, hell if i know. I dont think the bell houseing will because the 216 pattern looks to be alot smaller than the 250 one. The mounting of the bell housing to the crossmember wont be hard; i can drill two holes and have some rubber and its perfect. i was able to cut the radiator mount a bit and now have the new radiator on the inside of teh whole radiator support and it looks like it was meant to be, hah. im still waiting for new shackles in the mail, the ones on this frame a crap. i ordered some more por-15 for this frame beacause i used it on my last frame and am very pleased with how it works and holds up.

i saw that on ebay, very nice and useful, but i didnt get to it intime :( no big deal, i could always make one on the mill if i really needed too. Im having real trouble rebuilding the shackles on the new frame. I tried to replace the bushings for the front srpings on the frame and when i was installing the new ones i just destroyed them. I figured that i would cut those front bushing mounts off my wrecked frame and weld them onto the new one, leaving the old good bushing in there but replacing all the other shackle parts.

Sound good?

i plan to do the same for the rear. I have the onld transmission cross memeber in the new frame and dont know if i need to cut it out for that 1967 tranny. if i could just drill holes that woudl be great.

So i finally found the webpage ive read about around the internet. The stovebolt engine company. and wow. After all the drawings and planning i did to find a good easy strong way to mount my 250, i found their kit specifically to mount my engine to my truck frame.

crap, $120 but man its worth it. That takes alot off my shoulders. Makes it so much easier. Now i have to worry about fixing the ruiend back cab panel without buying a new one. Ive gotten the front suspention rebuilt, and ive started on the rear. I pulled the old axel and am about to throw my new rear end in.

Hears a question. I bought my rear end thinking it was a 3.08 camero rear end, but i thought about it and did the math. Going abou at what sounds like 3000 rpms or so, with 195-75-14 wheels in the rear (about 25 in diameter) in 3rd gear (1-1), i would do about 60 mph. From the math, thats not a 3.08, at all. more liek a 3.55. Im gonna have to get the numbers off it to see what it is.

Where can i run my numbers for the rear end to find out its information, and what older vehicles had a 3.55 ratio?
