I am wanting to put tilt steering in my 62 uni and have read a lot of articles about using GM steering columns from the 60's to the 80's but not much is said about a ford tilt column. Anyone have comments that would help an old guy in deciding why GM over ford or vice versa? I am a new member and look forward to posting some of my pics on my mopar IFS, interior fiberglas work and tilt front end re-do.

Thanks

Availability for one. GM made more cars with tilt than Ford. As for other considerations, adaptability may well be another concern. GM parts seem to fit well with other makes more so than do either Ford or Chrysler.

Good point. Is there a certain year that is a good ford tilt column that would work?

62 ford unibody. I am about half way through putting in a 88 chrysler new yorker IFS so steering is the next option.

In that case I would start with Ford/Mercury (perhaps out of a Cougar or Monterey) and see if the wiring isn't too far off. Either way make sure you have the length you need to have the wheel come up far enough so you won't have to lean over to drive.
