This seems to be VERY hard to find... Chevy parts are easy - GMC, not so much! Can anyone lend me any advice on a source for a chrome or stainless grill? Or am I better served finding a place to have the original painted grill chromed? It is in perfect shape, but I don't know what prep work would be required to get it chromed.

You can try Dixie Truck Works (http://www.dixietruckworks.com/). Have you also considered a painted one that you can have chromed like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1957-CHEVROLET-GMC-PICKUP-GRILLE-TURQUOISE-RARE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ140704QQihZ006QQit emZ160211079763QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW) on eBay?

Mr. Mac, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately you have found what I have been running into. The Ebay listing is for a painted Chevy grill, which in '57 looks VERY different from the GMC. The Dixie listing is also for a Chevy grill. I do have the painted factory original GMC grill pieces already on the truck - I'm beginning to think I need to find a place to get them chromed (where do I begin looking?), but I don't know how that process holds up over time compared to buying an original chrome/stainless piece.

A quick look through the phone book or Yellow Pages (http://www.yellowpages.com/) under plating should give you at least a couple of results if you live in an area of at least 50,000 people.

As for longevity, I took a '66 Mustang bumper set to a local plating company back in 90 and the bumbers are still chrome and pretty today. You'll probably have to have them acid dipped to remove all the paint first, but I think that has to happen anyways. Either way, the point is, if done by a good shop (ask to see samples of their work and don't be afraid to ask questions!) then it should last a long time!
