I've got a 50 chevy pu with new windshield glass and moulding. The install went well. Later I found the two misplaced (this is a 7 year project) stainless trim pieces that need to be installed too. There is a razor thin slit in the rubber that must be for the trim piece, but the trim has a little 'L' shaped lip on the end of the tab that sticks into the rubber. Looks like a tough fit. Do I just keep pushing the trim piece into the rubber...or should I have put this piece in BEFORE I put the glass in? Thanks for any advice you can throw my way.

You can soap it up good and push them it, its harder with the new rubber compounds. You can reinstall the glass and install the stainless at that time. In either case its going to be a tough fit. I soaped mine up with "wire pulling" soap from Home Depot and kinda of pounded them in. Sounds crude, but it worked and I managed not to screw up the metal.

Terry,

Which piece is that? The only trim I have is the center bar in the windshield ('52) or is it for your year only?

Mac,

There is stainless trim on the 1950 deluxe model that is 'U'-shaped which surrounds the windshield glass. The trim piece's 'open ends' tie back to the center vertical piece. As per the advice of the admin (above) I tried soaping up the slot in the rubber and started pushing the trim in but didn't have much luck. I bought a 'window stick' from my local body shop supplier but still having problems. My old shop manual for the 1950 states when replacing the windshield, first take the trim off, and lastly, put the trim back on. I'm hoping I can get the trim back on without taking the glass. But...I may have to take that route.

Thanks, Terry
