Howdy all. About three months ago I bought a ’48 GMC to restore and being my first, I have some learning to do.

What I need help with is finding a welding class in or around Katy, Texas or in the west Houston area.

I have looked through the local community college class schedules and all I find is 16-week courses… way too in-depth. Looking more for a class that will last a few weekends or a week or two.

If you have any ideas, it would be appreciated.

thanks

Joey,

Welcome to the forum! I too had to do some leraning on welding practices and couldn't find anything either. I decided to take a trip to the library and found several books and a couple of DVDs on welding, bodywork and paint.

I bought a wire feed welder and went to a local fabrication shop to ask for some scraps with which to practice on. The guy I spoke said that he'd be happy to show me some of the basics of welding body panels and all it cost me was a few "ice-cold coke-colas." Money well spent!

Find a local truck club and you'll also find people more than willing to help you learn and it may cost you the same (ok, maybe a "pop" or "soda" depending on where you live).

Good luck and send us pics!
