Guys:
This is my first time on this site. I am a vintage tractor buff but have a question about my new project---a 1965 F-250. It has what looks to be a rebuilt inline Ford 6 cyl connected to a 3 speed manual transmission. I would like to put in a 4 speed granny gear transmission. I do not have access to the truck yet as I have not gone to pick it up but have seen it and been in it. What is involved in this transmission swap?? Whould I need another bellhousing and clutch?? Shorten driveshaft? Different crossmember?? The truck originally had the shifter on the column and someone disconnected it and it now has a floor shifter that seems to be farther back towards the seat than normal. I seem to remember on another later model ford I had with a granny that the stick had quite a dogleg in it and went through the floorboard farther forwad up under the dash. I presume from seeing them on the net that in 1965 they also installed 4 speed grannys in the F-250. If thats the case what I would be looking for would be what's needed to make the swap from a factory 3 speed to a factory 4 speed. Obviously need the transmission, but what else and are there any other issues? I presume transmission tunnel space is not a problem because I have seen 1965 F-250s for sale with 4 speed grannys.
