i have just purchased a 72 C-10 it is in very good shape and run's good the only problem that i have is wiring someone has spliced in a aftermarket tach into the dash. i want to get rid of it and put in a factory one but thats not my biggest problem. The brake lights won't work neither do the running lights. I have checked all the fuses and replaced the headlight switch and they still won't work is there anybody who has some suggestions as to where I should start to look for the problem or any suggestions.

Usually when something does not work, it's because there's a bad/poor/non-existent ground. You can verify this by taking a piece of wire and connecting it to a good ground and then touching the lamp socket. If the light comes on, there’s your problem. If not, then the fun begins.

You’ll have to start looking for an open or disconnected wire/bundle. In either case, if you find it, keep moving to the power source and make sure there are no other surprises.

If the wiring has been hacked and spliced in many different places you may want to replace the harness. It won’t be cheap, but in the long run there’s something nice about knowing that of all the things that could go wrong with your truck the wiring won’t be at the top of your list.

No problem. Here's a link (http://http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/0152.asp) for LMCs wiring harnesses just in case.
