I believe I need to replace the steering column coupler. (Connects steering column to gear box). Have been unable to locate a manual. Can anyone help me learn how to take his dude apart and reassemble?

Device appears to be missing at least on bolt. I can turn wheel a partial before it gets hard to turn. At this point, watching the coupler, you can see the steering column end slip till it reaches a pin. This is the point where it gets stiff. You push the wheel past the pin ( the coupler is somewhat bent up) and it slides past the pin.

any help or suggestions, scans, diagrams.... anything would be helpful...

Thanks,
Dave

The shop manual is not much help on the column. I know, I have had to work on my 1969 in the past. I went to the wrecking yard to learned how. You have to drop the column and remove the firewall bolts to change the coupler. You take of the the split bolt all the way out and remove the coupler.

Yer my yoke broke to. and when i dryed to buy one the wrecker would only sell me the hole streeing coloum. so i had to re wire the every thing cause they didnt have a 1973 model F100 coloum so i brought one of a 85 model and it was a barsted to re wrie. cause i anit no electriction. But it is the streeing box that your conserned about remanting or some thing else. But adding the coupler to the box is simpile. its like two bolts. and it just slides of the spine. and you take your streeing wheel of and slide the streeing arm out so you can take it apart with out have to touch the box

Should the steering in a 71 be like "extra - extra" sensitive? I drove mine for the first time today and it seems like the least little movement on the steering wheel makes the truck swere kind of hard.
