Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and hoping that someone might have some insight. This question is for a friend. My friend just purchased a single axle international 4400 diesel truck with 200,000kms from a local dealer in Toronto, Canada. The vehicle was sold "as is" but was in very good condition and passed inspection with minimal work. The problem herein is that the truck is burning excessive oil, I was told that over 40 liters of oil are used per 1,000kms of travel, way above the 1 liter average. The dealer that sold the car said that the vehicle was originally leased new from them and always serviced there and has the original engine and drive train and had no known problems on file. The refuse to help. My friend mentioned that the vehicle doesn't emit any smoke what so ever and the exhaust is clean, the vehicle passed emissions testing through the local government required tests. Another service advisor at a different new International Truck dealer told him that the problem exists with the fuel injectors and the all need to be replaced. The cost is roughly $6000 with labour. Does anyone know of a related problem, cause or remedy or will the engine require an entire over-haul? Please keep in mind that there is no smoke blow by, no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil, the vehicle is somewhere and how consuming oil internally but not via the head gasket or piston rings? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Alex in Toronto, Canada.

WOW over 40 liters of oil are used per 1,000kms of travel. Maybe you better put fuel in the crank case and oil in the fuel tank. Might be cheaper??
Sorry but don't know anything about diesel motors.
