we purchased a 1951 Mercury, well we thought that we did, and when we started tearing it apart the serial # and info didn't make any sense, it was for a Ford. The truck has been registered as a Merc for years and everything is all original. Has anyone ever had this problem before??
Any help or info would be appreciated.

on the tag on my 51 mercury the tag its self dose say ford motors yes,
but when you look at the model it should say M1, M2, or M3 for the Mercury
F1,F2,F3 for the ford.
I personaly never had a problem with the 50's trucks but my 68 merc m100, I know had some something fishy going on, I got told that some car lots had problems getting the Mercs so they just retaged/marked the fords so they did not need to pay for getting the truck across the line. at one time any vehical not built in canada, the boys out east would charge the car/truck makers a fee for the right to sell to the canadian public.
