My husband and I are restoring a 1951 Mercury pickup V8, with a rebult 305 chevy motor. We are just in the beginning stages, actually we are just stipping it down. We are just looking to see if anyone has any advice or experience with this truck. It is in really good shape, all original except the seat and someone has attempted to half assed restore it already and has bondoed both front fenders and painted over. The lady that used to own it hasn't taked the best care of it and all the paint and bondo on the front end is coming off. We are going to replace the front fenders and possibly the rear. We have been told that a late 70's early 80's Mustang II front clip will bolt up to have disc brakes and power stearing, is this correct?? To be honest this is our first rebuild of a truck this old and we may need some assistence with parts and such. If anyone could lend us a hand it would be much appreciated.

Im building a rust bucket budget 51 M3 rat rod right now. my old farm truck is in very bad shape, and should not of bin looked at as a project in the first place.

I looked at the mustang clip. and a custom 4 link rear end. but its just not in the budget for my build.

what Im doing is scraping the old frame, and going with a 89 lincoln town car frame, by cutting the side frame rails off and moving them in 11". the cab now fits. but to make the front tin work/fit 15" off the front frame needed to be cut , also the inner frenders got a heavy cut so now only the top 6" is left from the rad suport back. thats not a problem because the bottems were rusted out.

this lincoln build might raise the question, how crazy a person are you . But for $400 a person can pick up a good running lincoln that has a nice ride, 5.0l with fuel injection, and a 4 link 8.8 rear end, tilt stearing, and front disk brakes.

the truck some what fitted and even the stock lincoln tilt/ power stearing fits with no cutting. The front fenders sit at about 31" giveing the body about 8" of space off the road, and if thats to high air bags are eazy to placed on lincoln frame.

as for the mustang clip its no bolt an go, Rays Rod Shop/u-weld & others has the cross member you seek, but you are looking at a bit of cutting and welding/fab to make it all fit any way. for power steering it all going to depend on the rack you pick.

sorry about my spelling, I have bin fighting with the spell checker, its just not working:eek:
