I have a 1956 Chevy 3800 1 ton pick up. It has a ten bolt rearend with 5:11 gears and 8 lug axles. I'd like to swap the entire differential with a modern rear end (70s, 80s, 90s, 00s) that has some highway gears (2:73s) and six lug axles. Where should I look for the closest bolt in, I don't want to have to shorten axles.

I appreciate any help out there.

Most late 60' to late 70's Camaro, Chevelle, Nova rear ends will work! Grab a tape measure measure from backing plate to backing plate and go to your local bone yard. There are lots of good ones still around... just ask.

My 2-cents worth.
