can you shorten the frame of a truck in the center with out affecting the strenth of the frame if you have done this before or know anything about it let me know
i think you can but want other opinions on it

When you weld the frame, the metal heats and cools, becoming more brittle, and if you cool it fast with oil or water, that makes it even more brittle, You can weld on the frame, but if you want to totally shorten the frame, i would say add some extra support.

Yes...It can be done. The trucks frame will be a little weaker where the welding was done. I have did this in the past to a Jeep but for rock crawling it ended up cracking beside the weld due to what above post said. I added some beef plates to it to help support but I had to take it more easy with it. So it will be what you end up doing with the truck to help you decide weather or not you want to do it.
