Next, the last valve,
the number four exhaust valve is ground to the correct height
and installed. The two valves now act as a guild for setting
the height on the rest of the valves in the cylinder head.
Our
FE block uses a fixed rocker bar that hold the individual
rocker arms. Since this a hydraulic lifter
application, setting the height correctly is critical, as no
further adjustment is available.
A straight edge is used between
the first and last valve to check each valve as it is ground
and temporally installed.
With
all the sticks ground and test fit, the heads are ready to be assembled.
Mike shoots some assembly lube
on the stems prior to installing them in the
head. After the valve is installed, an umbrella
style oil seal is used to control oil.
The seals are installed over
the stem before the valve springs are installed. Each
valve is them tested for opening and closing operation.
With
all the valves installed and the fit re-checked the job is
done and ready for reinstallation on the cylinder block. [more]
