The continuing saga

July 2000 I finished up the front suspension on the truck. I did find bushings to replace the worn ones from Al Saffrahn, Maricopa, AZ, he was a great source of hard to find parts. I primered and painted the frame back to mid-engine. Gettting the springs in was much easier than I thought. I decided to read the mechanical procedures manual, and what amazing information it provided!! If I had read it prior to taking the springs out, I would not have been "surprised". |

July 2000 I have been fairly busy as the pictures below will indicate. I have been working on the rear portion of the truck. I moved the cab forward into its normal position so I could reach as much of the frame as possible. This leaves the middle part of the frame to finish it. I encountered a couple of trouble spots including the front leaf spring bolts, ring around the right rear drum. As of July 20, I had the frame painted and ready to reassemble except for the front bolts on the leaf springs. They are pretty worn and I may have some made and find some replacement rubber bushings. |

| September 2000 A couple of months have passed and I have totally rebuilt the rear half of the truck. I left the rear end itself alone, but redid almost everything else. The brakes work great and the steering is still extremely tight. I am having problems again with the carburetor not working but that is not a priority. I have decided to use the body off of my 1947 Hudson pickup to finish the 46. The 46 body is not in good shape, and the priority is to get the truck finished, not work on it for the next ten years!! My intention is to finish both trucks, but I need to get at least one done. I believe the only difference between the 46 and the 47 was in the chrome on the front of the hood. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. (akcoop@ecity.net). I thought I was going to have to sideline the project for 11 months in order to attend a school for the National Guard, but it did not work that way. So the project continues on!! | |

December 2000 Well, the truck is back in the garage and work will commence shortly. I have decided to use the cab from my 47 pickup. Hopefully there will be more to come in the months ahead. |
