Mount Adams Trip page Two

Mother standing next to the big lava trench. this is a close in zoom shot. Panned back... it's a big trench!! You can almost see her on the right side standing in the red trees. Oh boy! Oh boy! A mud puddle!! Blasting through the 6" deep puddle! Gotta wash the old 'Burb when I get home anyway!
The other end of the big trench. Notice the pine trees growing from the floor. A few souvenirs. Lucky me this time, she usually finds big, heavy rocks to take home! The end of the line... ...Good thing for heated mirrors! Keeps the rain off! I had to back up a long ways out of that last place.
It looks like I parked next to an explosion frozen in time doesn't it? Looking North up USFS road # 720. A trial leading to... ...New Cave. There's been at least 150 caves discovered after this one, but names stick. The tunnel goes about 1/2 mile in each direction from this entrance.
Looking out while waiting for the bat flight at dusk. Except there wasn't any this time. Bummer.  Cave register sign. There's always a jar somewhere with a notepad to leave your name on... just in case you don't come back out. So much for the bats... back to the general store for food, shower, and sleep. Sunday sunshine!! Finally. Cody has to check out all the new sights & smells. Yours truly is at the wheel.
It would be hard to get tired of that rear view mirror scene. Mount Adams. Look out! Here comes a 1965 Suburban! This house is at least 150 years old. The foundation is made of lava rock.
A pasture with a mountain view. Looking at Mill creek from about 500 feet up. A close-up view. One last good view of Mt. Adams before we head back East.

Mill Creek waterfall. A valley just West of Goldendale Washington. Looking in the other direction. The  Klickitat River heading South. There's a road on the other side of the river... except it doesn't look very passable.
Cody just can't keep his eyes open any more. Must be the hum of the tires. A very old cemetery by Cleveland WA. Some date back to the last century. This one is typical of the dates on the stones here. This is what is left of a farm. It burned in the Mabton range fire.
Total miles: 642.6
MPG on trip:

Best: 14.5
Worst: 13.1

The fire burned several thousand acres. A food stop at a rest area. Cody thinks he's getting a bite of turkey ham. Nice try, Cody. Now, quit drooling!
The End
