| The truck on the right is my 58 Suburban. (The
pickup on the left is my brother's unrestored original 1957, which is still
used for light farm chores on a weekly basis). I had been looking
for an early Suburban for years, and my brother finally found this one
for me in middle Tennessee about 3 years ago. I drove it heavily
for something less than a year before the original 283 finally gave out.
I don't think that it had ever major work before, and it couldn't handle
my heavy regimen of highway driving.
I'm in the process of putting in a 350 retro'd to look
like the 283, an original 3 speed overdrive, and also removing the quad
headlight sheetmetal and going with earlier 1956 dual headlight front end
sheet metal (I just like it better and the current fenders are junk anyway.)
We're also having to cut out and replace alot of rusted sheet metal.
This will essentially be a stock appearing truck with
some updates underneath so that it can cruise the highways and hold up.
The interior will have a few more amenities than original but will maintain
the original theme.
